Pantone Classic Blue, See you in 2021!

Sep 15, 2020

We don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that 2020 has turned the wedding industry completely on its head. With reschedules, closures, and quarantines, everything we had planned for gorgeous events flew out the window as the whole world went into survival mode.

But, we had some gorgeous plans for this year! Especially when we saw Pantone’s 2020 Color of the Year, Classic Blue.

So, you know what? Today, we’re sharing some Classic Blue wedding inspiration for our 2021 brides! Let’s not let this bold hue go to waste!

It’s not unusual to see blue incorporated into weddings. In fact, Navy Blue is often a popular choice for linens, suits, and paper!

But we think Classic Blue is a much more bold and daring color. It’s certainly not a background color, it’s meant to be seen!

Let’s look at some fun ways to incorporate Classic Blue into your wedding color palette & design:

Classic Blue Flower Inspiration

Flowers are always an obvious place to start when thinking about your wedding’s color palette. True blue flowers can be a little more rare, but there are still some stunning varieties that can pack a punch.

We love how this installation of hanging delphinium makes a huge statement. How romantic would it be to incorporate a floral chandelier into your reception? In this centerpiece, you also see blue hydrangea to provide a pop of blue against more white and creamy blooms and greenery.

If you’re looking to incorporate blue into your florals, it can be a good idea to pair it with white blooms and greenery to create a softer, bridal look. In this bouquet we see more delphinium but also a blue thistle (called eryngium). These two flowers provide so much texture but paired with soft, ruffle-y ranunculus, it creates a gorgeous garden style design.

Classic Blue Linens & Textures

Next up, let’s talk linens & fabrics!

We know it can be tempting to go for a basic white linen, but if you want a bold, high-end design opt for a deep luxe color.

This tablescape looks so inviting with a saturated blue velvet linens. Everything pops against it; the candles, flowers, place settings, and even the chairs. A bold linen really sets the tone for your whole design. Why go basic?

Here’s a great example of playing fabric and flowers against each other. The blue velvet of this chair paired with organic flowers (hello again, delphinium!) is so stunning. We could totally picture an outdoor lounge area with velvet seating and growing florals.

Classic Blue Wedding Cakes

Wedding cakes are another real statement area to incorporate color!

Now, we’ll go ahead and admit, blue cakes can seem, well… out of the blue. But if it’s done right, wow! What a moment!

Photo & Cake by Nine Cakes

We love this insanely gorgeous cake with its full blue color. One of our very favorite wedding cake makers, Nine Cakes crafted this beauty! Even though this cake is completely blue, there is some variation in the color; almost like watercolor. This gives it more of an artsy vibe.

Paired with complimenting colors in oranges and peaches, it really pops. The subtle gold edge around the top of each tier and the touch of gold flecks brightens the design.

Thinking of blue but more on the subtle side? This cake is stunning, minimal perfection. It almost has a chinoiserie effect with the hand painted blue floral and birds. Finished with a simple gold band around each layer, it’s pure perfection.

Classic Blue Wedding Style

Ready to go for the gold? Let’s talk suits and gowns!

Now, we’d never say anything against white gowns & sleek black tuxes, but when you see this Classic Blue wedding wear, you might just change your mind!

This groom just radiates style with a patterned blue suit jacket. Even though the whole look is more on the casual side with no tie and darker pants, you can’t deny he is dressed to the nines! We also love how he paired the jacket a small pin accent instead of a boutonniere. Adding accessories like a boutonniere, large pocket square, or cummerbund with a patterned jacket could get too busy, but this small gold accent is just perfection.

Now let’s talk about this masterpiece of a wedding gown! We practically had to pick our jaws up off the floor when we saw this white and blue patterned beauty. (And are those pockets we see?! We’re obsessed!)

You can be certain, no guest is going to forget this look!
